Summer is here, and that means longer days, sunny skies, and plenty of time for outdoor adventures! Bikes, scooters, roller blades, skateboards, and playground fun are great ways for kids to stay active and enjoy the season. While exploring, it’s important to stay safe so the fun doesn’t turn into an accident.
Lil’ Iguana’s lessons can help kids ride, roll, and play with confidence.
Here are 7 tips to keep you safe this summer:
1. Always Wear Protective Gear
Helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, and proper shoes are a must! Protective gear helps prevent injuries and keeps kids confident while they ride and play.
2. Get Permission Before You Go
Always ask a parent or guardian where you can go, how far you can ride, and what time you need to return. Checking in builds trust and keeps you safe.
3. Know Your Boundaries
Stick to safe areas like sidewalks, parks, or designated playgrounds. Make a plan with the adult in charge ahead of time. Then, avoid busy streets or places where you could get hurt.
4. Use the Buddy System
It’s safer, and more fun to ride, skate, or play with a friend. Buddies can watch out for each other and get help if needed.
5. Follow the Rules
Stop at intersections, cross at the crosswalk, watch for pedestrians, and ride in the right direction. Rules keep everyone safe, whether on a bike path or playground.
6. Listen to Your Harm Alarm
If something doesn’t feel right, trust your inner voice. Move away from danger and tell a trusted adult immediately.
7. Take Breaks and Stay Hydrated
Running, rolling, or climbing can get tiring. Take breaks, drink water, and rest in the shade to stay energized and safe.
By following these tips and practicing skills from Lil’ Iguana’s Safety lessons, kids can enjoy every adventure while staying safe, confident, and prepared. Summer is all about exploring, having fun, and making memories safely!
