Yarn Octopus

Today is Octopus Day! Octopuses are widely considered to be the most intelligent of all invertebrates. Did you know octopuses have three hearts? Also, they have arms, not “tentacles” and each arm has a mind of its own. Below is a fun craft sensory craft for your little ones making these fun creatures.

Supplies:

  • Two different colors of yarn
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Tissue box (optional)

Directions:

Wrap the yarn around a tissues box.

Wrap about 5 feet of yarn around the box.

Tie one section of the yarn.

Cut the other side of the wrapped string.

To form the head, gather the pieces of yarn into a ball.

Tie them together with piece of the second color yarn.

Make sure to tie a secure knot.

Separate the yarn into eight sections.

Braid each group, tie up the ends with a piece of the second color yarn.

The octopus will have eight braids that form the octopus\’ eight legs.

Trim uneven strings at the ends.

Add second color to ends of the octopus and glue googly eyes.
